The first thing that comes to mind when I see his name is Laser Eraser and Axel Pressbutton, although I liked the strip better with Alan Davis drawing it.

I thought Preacher was crass but Dillon was my favourite 2000AD artist when I was a kid. I loved his Rogue Trooper stuff. IIRC he took over the writing towards the end of its first incarnation but the story was ultimately cut short.

Ennis' writing never grew out of adolescent crap but it was good to see Dillon go on and become such a success.

I don't know how he died but in every picture of him that I've seen posted since the weekend he's holding either a beer, a cigarette or both. 

He actually died from a burst appendix.
