How would you protect the Earth? Recruiting help might be kind of selfish. Speaking of selfish, of whom I could get too, family would come first. I'd stash them away or tell them to hunker down until I could get to them out. Maybe get them to a habitable planet in the sector. Of course, there would be the issue of battery conservation.
