Anyone here from the old IMDB days?

I am. I just signed up today. I used to be shaggy63070-1. I couldn’t use the dash on this system so that’s why I replaced with a lower cased t. So if anyone here from the old IMDb days post you’re new name old one if you had to change it. I see the arguing on here hasn’t changed. Lol

reply

✋ wheelin I think

reply

Yes, though my name was different back then, and I didn't frequent it as much.

reply

Yeah not many left I suppose. I requested it quite a lot back then but stopped a year before they shut down the chat. Seems like not many transfered here.

reply

It's a bummer because you could almost always get a reply from even an obscure movie or an older film. The pool of people who were engaged with the IMDb forum was endless. Now if I happen to see a random post on the front page of an old movie i liked I might see what it was about and reply. If I post about something and it's not about new content I'll get crickets. You could always talk movies/tv I never talked politics before.

reply

The way posts are ordered here makes it very difficult to gather with anyone in a discussion of an older movie/tv. Only like the last fifteen posts (or thereabouts) show up on the first page of the general board or the "latest posts" board (I avoid politics so don't keep up on what's there).

Right now the first page of "latest posts" only shows posts from less than 20 minutes ago. Page 3 is posts from an hour ago. If you only visit once a day, then you would probably only be looking at posts from the last hour or so before you just stopped bothering to page backwards.

I think it makes it difficult to get any conversational momentum on something that's not current (like politics, sigh).

reply

Yes, but you can't ask questions. I only use IMDB to look up cast members of a movie.

reply

I think you can write personal reviews, but that's all. I like to still use it for research.

reply

Yes. Not a flamethrower, just a regular guy enjoying some movie chat.
I'm glad I'm here but some of it gets a bit hairy when it comes to politics.

reply

NO...BUT IM AWESOME,SO CONSIDER YOURSELF LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND ME...WHATS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR,MOVIE AND POSITION...LETS BE BEST FRIENDS...GOOD IDEA RIGHT?...IM LOVING THE IDEA...GLAD TO MEAT YOU FRIEND.🙂

reply

That's something a cannibal might say.

reply

Black, Cruisin', doggy. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

reply

I wish real actors would frequent these boards some time. That's what I got when I was on the IMDB boards. Sometimes you get to talk to the real actors that did the movie (non-A list of course but still). They can sometimes explain why this or that happened and it's fun engaging with them in a non-toxic manner.

reply

That sounds like fun.

reply

From way back at the beginning of IMDB. So long that IMDB began purging old comments and we old-timers started noticing our posts disappearing.

reply

What was your call sign back in those days?

reply

Yes but it was better back then because you could actually post political discussions under the people and movies they were related too. Before communist big tech implemented their censorship.

The Fahrenheit 911 board was hilarious back in the early 2000s. American Sniper board had similar banter.

But the left can’t debate so they censor. They’re too ignorant to be persuasive. Makes no difference if it’s the classroom, the courtroom, or newsroom. Anytime there’s open debate they’re destroyed. That’s communism.

reply

Yeah. I honestly thought there would be more old IMDB users here.😞

reply

Perhaps they’re on reddit?

reply

Yeah doubtful. They all had call signs like we do. Yup the old days are truly gone.

reply

I have the same SN so once in a while I’ll stumble across a post I made like 10 years ago. My original went back to like 1999.

reply

I think everyone is on the Facebook. Personally, I prefer not to fangirl under my own name :) Also, I feel awkward if I'm talking about a show and realise everyone else who likes the show is twenty years younger than me.

reply

Maybe I can refresh your memory to the IMDB days:

GD went by a few names - AtlasShrugged (we called him "Shrug") and later "Storm2013" and 'DailyStormer' (like the neo-nazi website) and we called him 'Stormy'. But by then most of us ignored him when he was pushing his neo-nazi / white supremacist propaganda which he copied and pasted from 'DailyStormer'.

reply

Yeah atlas shrugged I remember him. Lol I wonder what he’s up to these days. What was your old name?

Oh wait you said GD. Hes right here. Lol

reply

Shruggy is still here as GD - still spewing his Waffen-SS propaganda. He has his Trump followers on this forum, as you can see - part of the 'herd mentality' Trump has boasted about.

reply

I guess no one remembers me here. Lol I am not sure if I feel like diving into politics like I used to. Just a waste of time. But we’ll see. Maybe if I get bored.

reply

We discussed politics mostly on The View forum there. We’re you on that forum? That’s where Shrug used to troll.

reply

No I was on the movie and tv boards a lot and of course politics.

reply

I notice that Alt Rightees seems to love Ayn Rand (Atlas Shrugged, however as usual they misinterpret things. Just like how Nazis misinterpreted Nietzsche. https://qz.com/882493/donald-trump-paul-ryan-and-andy-puzder-say-they-love-ayn-rands-controversial-philosophy-heres-what-us-republicans-keep-getting-wrong-about-it/

reply

GD is a huge Ayn Rand fan. He spread her BS all over IMDb.

reply

Trump claims his favorite book of fiction is The Fountainhead (if he actually read it). It expresses Rand's ideas of Individualism, Objectivism. "Atlas Shrugged" has been twisted by the far right to mean too much government interference (but only when government is liberal-perfectly okay with Trump interference). They pick and choose a few phrases from books; I really doubt they've read the complete works nor understand them fully.
And of course they sweep her pro-choice Atheism and other things under the rug. Just like Hitler picked out a few phrases from Nietzsche so he could call himself Ubermensch, but Nietzsche would have opposed Hitler and Rand Trump.

reply

I wonder who told Trump to say that, since he's never read a book in his life ? Probably Jared Kushner. I think Trump was going to say his favorite work of fiction was 'The Art of the Deal', before Jared stopped him.

reply

That's not fiction, it's fantasy!
