Kippah vs Keffiyeh, who wore it better?
Discuss. Funny how both start with K as well, the sheer coincidence of it all. Wonder if there is some religious aspect behind the naming scheme.

shareOrthodox Judaism and Islam have a lot in common. Praying several times each day, fasting, no pork and food preparation rules, separation of genders, women covering hair, men wearing yamulke/skullcap, etc. Islam was based on Judaism and Christianity.
Also, Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic (Jesus language) are similar. Likely same origin. Modern Hebrew created by borrowing some words from Arabic.
Anyway, everyone I know calls it a yarmulke, not kippah. I'm curious to know when Jews began wearing them and how old the word kippah is.
UPDATE:
Wearing a yarmulke is only a few centuries old. My guess is that the original term is the Yiddish yarmulke. More Jewish men began wearing them after Israel was established. The word kippah is probably new and only means dome in modern Hebrew.
