with the Academy Award when it changes the record (for instance the ending action which I won't spoil except to say it was made up, from what I read on the Argo board). But for those who like Historical films, don't you want them to be as accurate as possible? Or is it okay to stretch to the limit and fabricate events for entertainment purposes?

No, when they get more accurate they get more boring. I go to the flicks to be entertained not educated. If i want to know what actually happend; i can find out.
shareI agree, I feel quiet disappoint whenever I discover the actual facts were different from the movie. I definitely prefer boring true to fantasy fiction.
shareI don't think that film was anywhere near Oscar worthy in the first place, though to be honest being Oscar worthy doesn't really mean much these days. Still, the way they completely set aside the Canadian involvement, who did 90% of the 'rescuing' made me mad.
shareI don't care how much boring is a movie, I like to be accurate as possible. I do feel cheated when I discover the facts were way different from the movie. If I want to watch a fiction movie i hope it's not an historical one.
Sadly, nowadays the historical accuracy in Hollywood movies is very "matter of opinion". I liked Argo but as per the vast majority of people i don't see why got "best picture".
Many historical films in the 20th century were complete fiction but it makes the events into a story and that is how it works. Titanic the romance film is hardly an authentic depiction of the people on board the ship. If they had added the sectarian tensions and the personalities of the passengers we would have gotten a realistic portrayal of actual events. Indeed if you had a love story involving real passengers than we would have the genuine article. Many historical films are contrived not including the ones that are outright propaganda. Lets see a historical movie that was propaganda, Becket.

The short answer for me is "yes," but that is more toward wanting the film to be as plausible as it can be. I don't count on a historical dramatization to be a reliable source of information, but I do think it is a more effective presentation if it is as close to the actual circumstances as possible.
