SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT!!!!

There seems to be a little confusion here. Who's male? Who's female?
Some of us have had a bit of trouble in sorting this out?
I will start......
I am female! Anyone else care to contribute to this thread?

reply

All I will say is that I'm a female that likes watching movies and tv shows. I'm kind of picky about what I watch though.

reply

You are a bit of a surprise.
By the way, what sort of shows and films do you like?

reply

Another surprise and it's 13...

reply

[deleted]

Crime, drama, horror especially demon possession, action, I love mysteries, and I like sci-fi.

reply

SO THIS JOINT DELETES A MESSAGE WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT? BS

reply

What was the message? Was it that terrible?

reply

no, it wasn't, it was a joke I heard on a late nite talk show,
"My psychiatrist told me I was a woman in a man's body, I said that's OK doc, I've decided to become a lesbian"
I thought it was funny

reply

Your post is still there, phantom8, on the second page of this thread. I'm not aware of any mod deleting any of your posts.

reply

thanks for clearing that up, my fault

Hi MissMargo -- We've only "spoken" a couple times, but I'm curious what prompted this inquiry?
These days we seem to have raised awareness of Trans issues, and to ask everyone their gender identity seems counter to the climate. Believe me, I wish life were a lot simpler, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone picked a fight over your innocent request.
A while back on IMDb, I went to the Judy Garland board and very gently, very delicately, asked what the circumstances were for the gay community back in the 80s to adopt her as an icon, as Judy wasn't gay, from what little I knew of her. And I knew someone was going to get upset even though I tried to frame the question as respectfully as possible. Fortunately, only one person got snarky; everyone else understood it was a genuine question.
Anyway, I'm an American male. You and I are very close in age. I have to admit, whenever I see your a post with your name on it, I'm happy to see it. Not even sure why, except you seem cheerful and on the level, (unlike that rotten Eve Harrington, haha).

reply

I have no idea of why gays loved Garland... Davis... Crawford.... Cher....
I have asked our son who just happens to be gay. He's not really sure! lol! He was born in 1980.
All I know is that they are/were wonderful ladies and great entertainers. I will always love Judy Garland for The Wizard of Oz. It was my once a year TV event when I was a child.

The whole reason that I started this thread is because I had assumed that one person was a female here. He isn't. It made me wonder if I assumed wrong about others here. I guess I sort of like to know who/gender I am talking to. In most cases I have been right. It's also nice to clear up any confusion when I have been wrong.

snepts! Glad to meet you! In most cases I try to be cheerful. It isn't too hard here with so many nice folks. As for that Harrington woman, she's a louse! She is on my ignore list!

reply

Haha. You must be quite the gadfly on here. We met a couple times already, first over The Children's Hour and another time more recently with Richard Boone.
Sometimes I think with so many options, posts are sort of lost. We have Film Talk and Genre Zone. I think I posted The Children's Hour on Classic Films, then I tried to post about In A Lonely Place on Film Noir, but I think just going to the actual film gets a better result.
Plus there's General Discussion, not to be confused with Other General Boards, with a whole bunch of choices down there. I guess what I'm wondering is you seem to have a presence here. Do you and other nice folks have a spot you generally hang out at?
btw, I found my JG discussion archived with the title "The gay community," page 2. Nine responses, all old now. I did get some thoughtful replies, which was the whole point.
Anyway, guess we'll meet again, hopefully sooner than later.

reply

I do think that going to the actual board of the film does get better results.
I have to tell you that I am so ashamed of myself. We talked a bit about The Children's Hour. You reminded me of that when we talked on the Richard Boone board. Here I am once again introducing myself!
Gadfly NO! Old bag with a faulty memory? YES!
they say that 3'rd times a charm..... or will it be the 4'th? Somehow I doubt that I will EVER forget snepts.
If I do, I guess we will meet again!

reply

So I still wonder if you and your peeps have patterns that cause you to run into each other repeatedly, like here in Gen Disc? I usually forget this is even an option, but it looks like a popular place.
btw, I am cognizant that you may not exactly want to invite me to all your fave spots, but if you are getting a family feel from some members (I'm on a small hockey board where everyone knows each other really well, and everyone's really supportive), I'm just curious. I'd done a little with Politics, but those people are awful, and I'm going to avoid posting there, but it would be fun to check in with some nice folks sometimes, if there is some way to do that other than randomly.
No biggie, though. Thanks again.
btw, are you a Bette Davis fan? I feel like I should catch Now, Voyager one of these days. Did you watch Feud: Bette and Joan? That was kind of fun. Maybe I'll head there next.

reply

I am not sure if we are peeps but I do talk often to certain folks here on General Discussion. This is a good place to meet people and to talk about anything you like.
I have run into a number of the same folks on a number of the individual boards.

I steer clear of the politics board too. after our last presidential election I know all about high emotions and strong convictions.. That is the last place I would care to post any opinions.
I mostly check out what is trending in that trending bar. I like to know what others are saying if a certain movie or tv show I like is there. I also may have just seen a movie so I'll go to that board. If I have anything to say I will. I'll even post an answer to an old post. It will get into the trending bar and someone here may just want to discuss things further.
I like to come here to this board to chat with people. everyone is usually always friendly.

I am a fan of Bette Davis. I have seen so many of her movies, bad and good. She's always fun to watch. My favorite is All About Eve, as you can guess by my user name.
Sadly, I still haven't seen Feud. I don't have cable. One of these days..... I hope.

reply

Concerning Feud, be warned: Joan and Jessica Lange get noticeably more air time than Bette/Susan. They interact plenty, and Bette has her own storyline, but I just ran into someone complaining about The Joan C Show. I liked it, but it's pretty low-key, very dialogue driven as it winds down.
One more thing: I do get Turner Classic Movies, (Barbara Stanwyck is on right now - My Reputation), but it's so hard to be available and willing to sit through a movie on THEIR schedule. I'd see a Davis film, not sure if I wanted to commit while realizing the opportunities aren't always there. I'm not on Netflix and I haven't figured out other streaming services, but I'd prefer to see my films on the telly and not the 'puter. Nowadays it's getting easier to attach the two, but I haven't quite got there yet.
Anyway, thanks for taking the time. Like I said, for some reason your handle sticks with me, so I kind of enjoy running into you. Most people I don't even notice their name, but yours always stands out. Cheers !

reply

Cheers! And till we "meet" again! Great talking to you.

reply

One more thing. I saw The Petrified Forest not all that long ago, and wow, what a treat. Bette was never thought of as a beauty - at least I don't think she was - but seeing her SO young in that movie, I kept marveling at how pretty she was. That is such a great film, really straight-forward action but with emotional nuance, and a really young Bette Davis. That was a really enjoyable find.

reply

The Petrified Forrest is a fave of mine.Leslie Howard made such an impression on me. I think I saw that before I saw Gone With the Wind. After that the thrill was gone...... with the wind.... smile.

reply

I'm a guy. 32 yo.

reply

olioz! Gald to meet you!

reply

Likewise! :)

reply

I think I already mentioned somewhere on here that I'm female.

reply

I have seen your name around. thanks for clearing up any confusion on my part.

reply

Sassy redheaded female.

reply

Sassy redheaded female? You sound like fun! I see your posts around here. Thank you so much for checking in and clearing up all of the confusion on my part. It's nice to know this stuff!

I am appreciative that we have an alternative to the place we shall not name, so I try to have fun and participate. Nice to make your acquaintance. :)
