Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer for the first time today. 7/10

reply

Hi
Im not a 'rater' so much as i just like to describe what i saw

Henry is THE BEST portrait of a serial killer i have ever seen

Filmed for about $125k during the winter of '86 in Chicago mostly by newbies with a newbie cast

The results of this brilliant indie effort are some of the most chilling and savage acts ever committed to film...
Not for a moment did i feel like i was watching a thriller or slasher or whatever

This movie was nearly documentary style

Amazing ( and NOT for everyone )
A must see for horror/thriller fans

reply

Yep, the video sequence there, Yonk.

reply

The very sequence i was thinking of...
Horrible
I was impressed by the scene where Henry dismembers Ottis' dead body in the bath near the end. That looked so real!

I'm not sure if this was intentional, but i found the ending to be ambiguous, as the body in the suitcase may have been Becky, or it could have been some other girl.
reply

At the risk of sounding like a pain in the ass could you put spoiler tags on some of that post Amigo?

No drama...but Hownos and maybe some others have missed this film and lets not ruin it for them

And yes...it was full of great
and sickening scenes

Thx Dude!

reply

Ah, sorry, I forgot that there might be others looking at this post. How do you use the spoiler tags?

reply

You 'forgot' people read this stuff?
You dont seem silly to me
Are you being a smartass?

I hope not as i rather like you

Anyway, be well

reply

I didn't mean to give off that impression. Sorry if it seemed that way.

reply

No man
I was mistaken

You have been solid and continue to be so

I am sorry for jumping at you like that...you see, there has been a bit of trolling and sock accounting and even a Doxxer in the past 8 months or so... I dig this place...i kind of look sideways at most people
because creeps keep coming in
We need to be on the lookout for the creeps

You are cool
Peace

reply

Myself, I took it for Becky and never questioned that until you mentioned it, Watt.

reply

It's a bad one alright. The part where he's hunting a victim using the paint sprayer as the bait. GD!!!

Damn, Watt, you spoiled a great mood on the naming of songs thread.

reply

You mean by mentioning Pokerface by Lady Gaga on that annoying songs thread?

reply

No. Citing this movie. I was having a great time in the songs thread, then I come into this thread and find this movie. It was a complete change in mood. I remember "Portrait" when it first released on video. Just a graveling experience.

Fine citation though, Watt. Good find.

Damn, 30+ years old. Like it was yesterday.

reply

I haven't seen this.

reply

i gave it a watch fairly recently, within the last year or so i believe. i've seen it a few times over the years, and have always felt it lived up to its reputation, though i think otis is a bit of a weak link as an actor. michael rooker is truly great, undeniably terrific in my opinion.

have you ever seen angst? 1983 austrian horror about a just released from prison mass murderer? it's not really comparable to henry as a story, but it has that same sort of uncomfortable, you are there feel. it's currently streaming on shudder, & very much worth a look if you haven't seen it, imo.

reply

Nah, I'll probably be checking out Angst at some point in the future now.

reply

Unexpected love for this film. Glad I took a chance on it.

reply

When did you watch it?

reply

A local theater had a showing 2 years ago. I went on a whim, only knowing there was a controversial scene. I'm glad I did!
