Movies you didn't realize to which there were sequels

I just found out that Scanners has like 4 sequels. None of them involve Cronenberg, so not really surprising they were overlooked, but I'm still gonna watch 'em.

Has this ever happened to you?

reply

Scanners has 4 sequels??

reply

Apparently

Scanners II: The New Order (1991)
Scanners III: The Takeover (1992)

The next two are considered "spinoffs/sequels" I guess
Scanner Cop (1994)
Scanners: The Showdown (also known as Scanner Cop II) (1995)

They don't have any actor or crew carryover from the first film

Terms of Endearment

Lol!

reply

What? They made a sequel called The Evening Star (1996)

reply

Had no idea

reply

Me neither, Think I'll give it a miss though.

The mecanic
Transporter

reply

You really didn't know Transporter had sequels?

reply

I only saw one with Jason Statham

reply

The first three star Jason Statham, his were all big releases which is why it surprised me that you didn't know. I think even the last one that he is not in had a theatrical release.

reply

I thought of another to add. I had no idea for a long time there was a sequel to The Last Picture Show. It's called Texasville 1990 and all the main actors reprise their roles and Peter Bogdanovich returned to direct.

Deliverance.

Its sequel is called "Smokey and the Bandit".

A couple that come to mind:

"It Runs in the Family" was sort of a sequel to A Christmas Story even though it didn't feature any of the original actors. Also there was "A Christmas Story 2" in 2012 featuring a very odd looking teenage Ralphie.

"Look What's Happened to Rosemary's Baby", a 70s made for TV sequel to Rosemary's Baby. Only Ruth Gordon from the original returned.

Speaking of made for TV sequels, in 2003 there was a little known made for TV sequel to Christmas Vacation titled "Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure" that deserves every ounce of scorn it received.

reply

Wow thanks! The only one I knew about is Eddie's Island Adventure, but I have avoided it like the plague. I might investigate some of those others.

reply

Screw it, I'll watch the Island Adventure too, I have an unusual love of Randy Quaid that surpasses most people's.

reply

Hahaha he was the best part of Christmas Vacation for sure. The problem is shifting him from a supporting character to being the lead himself is a stretch, since the character works best as a foil to the lead.

If you do track this one down I look forward to your thoughts!!

reply

Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss (1988) is a sequel to A Christmas Story as well.

reply

I had never even heard of that one!

reply

I had seen Scanners 2 and 3 around the time they were released. Occasionally when I am watching older films and Asian cinema I will find what i thought was a standalone film was part of a series.

reply

Ice Age.
