But I think I will now, to show my support for their signing an ad deal with Colin Kaepernick.

Now I've never been a fan of professional sports, as you may or may not know about me, but I am impressed with this dude's resolve and with Nike for partnering with him.

Now nothing ever said you had to stand for the national anthem at a game; there was never any rule. Just like in school, I chose to stop saying the pledge of allegiance because I don't believe in a god, and the school, being a public institution, had no right to require me to say the allegiance as it's written, something as a free thinking individual I couldn't in good conscience say. It would have been a lie.

I don't know whether taking a knee during the anthem will create any positive change, but this is one respectable guy to stand up for what he believes in. The NFL is pretty chickenshit if they really are keeping teams from signing him based on his expression of an intrinsic American right.

So, not that I was watching NFL games anyway, but I definitely never will now, and I will buy Nike products to show my support for Mr. Kaepernick. That's a stand-up guy.

While I never have bought Nike stuff and I live in the heart of Nike country, I'm happy they have taken the stance they have.
All this blind patriotic nationalism is for the birds, complete binary thinking. If we don't kowtow to military rituals, if we don't question our overseas forays, and we ignore racial and economic injustice at home, we are being manipulated by the moneyed elites who maintain the status quo in order to enrich themselves.
I still won't buy Nike, but only because I can't afford it and I don't like the wealth being created off-shore and marked-up excessively here.
But I am pleasantly surprised they took this principled stand in the face of our current administration and the climate they are trying to create.

It's not a principled stance. Chickafila staying closed on Sunday is a principled stance. Naturally they are condemned for it. Nike is cynically marketing to a consumer culture, and they are only a few years slow to be hopping on the bandwagon now.

When Obama was trying to ram through the TPP, where do you think he chose to give his stump speech? Nike Headquarters. They want to build more Asian slave labor camps to crush racist American made competitor New Balance.

I don't think Kaepernic is protesting overseas forays either (Didn't he vote for Hillary?). He was abandoned by his black family and raised by his white family. I think he is acting out psych issues. Multiculturalism often makes people feel inadequate.

There is the cynical side of me that Nike is betting on a backlash from Left-center and Center, figuring this current and upcoming generation will be more supportive of movements like Black Lives Matter than what this current admin' is trying to foment. So maybe more cagey business move than principled stance -- but on it's face, it looks good, at least to me and I'm sure a lot of others. CK's been openly pilloried for pointing out a lot of knee-jerk hate for anyone who doesn't follow the rituals of mandatory, enforced, faux patriotism. U.S. citizens are living in the streets and shelters while we fly multiple jet fighters over stadiums at what cost and what point?
I'm not comfortable with Nike's overseas business practices, although I'm not on a crusade to know every facet. They may be helping in some ways and hurting in others. But I've never been drawn to logos and branding, quite the opposite (except for Crest toothpaste -- I'm a Crest man !).
But I like that Nike is stepping away from what I imagine most corporations do, which is to avoid controversy altogether. Stick to the middle, keep making money, don't upset the Golden Goose.

You are factually wrong about two things.

One, yes the players are required to stand for the anthem. It's part of an Obama era program where the taxpayers give money to the NFL owners in exchange for promoting patriotism. Teams didn't used to come out for the anthem.

Two, Kaepernic is not a stand up guy. He is a multi-millionaire with nothing to lose and everything to gain. The political left really needs to stop worshiping celebrity. It's what drove the working class away.

He probably would have made $30 million over those two seasons. I don't agree with his methods but he has cut his football career short. I would give up playing the national anthem altogether at sporting events.

I bought Nike shoes once and I didn't like them. I usually preferred Reeboks before they went all fitness and crossfit.

I tried Adidas and Puma, Skechers and New Balance, etc. Then I bought a pair of Airwalks that I really liked, I got out and bought another same pairs just in different color. I'm all Airwalks now, I guess.

So no, I'm still not buying Nike anytime soon.

Nike has some good stuff, but FYI, they have various manufacturers for their shoe models, so the quality and even the sizing can vary. Find the models that work for you.

I have bought Nike gear in the past, but no more!

Kaepernick and all the NFL players who kneel during the National Anthem are useful idiots for the Left's Hate America campaign. They are stupid, overpaid, ungrateful babies and thugs. And for him to say he's "lost everything" is total bullshit. He hasn't lost a god damn thing! And he's being paid millions by Nike to be an asshole.

My late father served in Italy in WW II, and I proudly served in the U.S. Army, and those assholes kneeling during the Anthem are spitting on his grave, and the graves of all the braves heroes who have died defending our country and our flag. It's disgusting and disgraceful.

I blame the NFL more than KP for being too chickenshit to clamp down on that asshole immediately.

KP like everyone, has have the First Amendment right to protest, but his employers have the right to control his actions when he is in uniform and performing for them as their employee. The First Amendment does not apply in this case.

And since you believed the way you did in school, I support your First Amendment right to not stand, since you are not an employee of the school system.
