A song in your head when you wake up?

Do you get this?

I'll often wake up with a song playing in my head. Sometimes I can actually remember dreaming about it, sometimes not. The most common song for me, and it's been dozens of times at this point, is Holy Diver by Dio. Sometimes the song is playing over the top of a dream like soundtrack, sometimes it's me or someone else singing it, and sometimes it's a special appearance by Ronnie James Dio himself. Most of the time though, I can't remember dreaming about it at all.

One weird thing is: I don't know if I've really listened to the song that much in waking life. There's got to be songs I've heard way more.

The second most common song for this is Total Eclipse of the Heart.

Does this happen to you?

I don't recall this ever happening to me. It does seem a bit weird that this song would stick in your head. You'd think it would be a favorite song, or one you associate strongly with some event that you dreamed about.

reply

I like it, but it's not my favorite. It is very strange indeed.

This makes me ponder...I don't think I've ever had music in my dreams. Odd.

I experience all sorts of senses in my dreams. I smell and taste and touch too. Feel pain. Ever since I quit smoking pot they are especially vivid.

I can only remember one recognizable song in any of my dreams, it was Cherokee People by Paul Revere and the Raiders. Occasional fragments of background music here and there.

Rarely taste anything and only a handful of times smelled anything.

Probably a dozen times I've been walking in a dream and stumbled, causing my feet to go flop/thump & wake me up. A few times dreampt that I was driving and realized that I was asleep and jolted awake.

"it was Cherokee People by Paul Revere and the Raiders"

You're making this one up! 😂 (Not really, I believe you, but man, that's a weird one.)

reply

I like that song.

So you're a former pothead, eh? That explains a lot of things.

You're a current terrible person, so yeah...

reply

Actually not, but you're a druggie. That illustrates a flaw in your character.

There's a flaw in your brain. Don't forget to take your blood pressure medicine.

reply

I doubt that you even have a functioning brain. Don't forget to see your shrink this week. I hear that you're making no progress, so maybe you should go twice a week.

When you're gone, there won't be thread after thread about how people made meaningful connections with you, or how you're missed. People will celebrate.

reply

Ah, but I'm not going anywhere. What part of that do you not understand? And when you're gone, the average IQ of this board will go WAY up. Oh yeah, and people will be dancing in the streets.

Yes, it is very strange.

This happens all the time. Usually it's a song I heard the day before and I wake up humming it. Very weird.

reply

It's been a week, and I still have this one lodged in my brain.

It's starting to drive me a little nutz.

I don't remember ever dreaming about a song, but waking up with a song in my head, yep.

Today it was beach boys

reply

I would stab myself in the face if I woke up with total eclipse of the heart in my head.

reply

No it does not. You might want to get some professional help for that.

Also had one dream that I got bit by a rattlesnake. Sucker buzzed when I was right next to him & nailed me in the right calf. Work up with a monster cramp there.
Did I start to get the cramp in my sleep, which precipitated the dream or did the dream cause the cramp? I'd think the former, but who knows?
