I pray no one else is hurt or killed in those fires. Those poor folks have suffered enough already!

The Feds need to kick in on the recovery...i think this disaster could bust Californias coffers and severely strain the insurance companies
Part of me suspects that the banks or other parties might end up acquiring much of that land for a song.

I will be happy to be corrected by our Cali MC crew but this is my understanding...
Much of the heavily populated areas of California were somewhat arid and the climate and topography were all wrong for supporting millions of people...still, the place was a paradise so we heavily populated it...
Eventually, massive irrigation systems were put in place to support the housing, the landscaping, the pools , the infrastructure, etc.
But when Cali suffers a prolonged drought and water restrictions go into effect all it takes is some dummy chucking a cig out of his car window and you have a problem

California is a bit too arid..?
Much of the southern area is desert, yes. This state survives on long distance irrigation. There are, however, regions which feature diverse environments. During the winter it's possible to travel from snowy forests to sunny deserts in about an hour or so.

Large scale agriculture may play a role...just a thought.
Over here in The Bronx we get tons of produce from the California fields everyday in a place called Hunts Point
They have huge truck depots and the train runs throug here
Maybe Cali is overextending itself on agriculture to the detriment of its own water supply?
