They're very nutritious. But I find they taste best when paired with something.

Only really in guacamole.

I find the consistency sludgy and gross when it's sliced in a sandwich or burger, or even in a salad. In terms of flavour it's pretty bland too.

I don't know if it's global, but the trendy thing to order in a cafe here in Australia right now is 'smashed-avo on toast' which to me is like green poo smeared over bread. No thank you.

Avocado on toast at Urth Caffe in the USA is pretty much the best thing ever. I used to dislike it but it has grown on me, it definitely needs to be paired with something as others have said, it goes alright in a salad too.
