Does advertising really work?

Do you see an advert and think, 'I must buy one of those.'

reply

I’ll take it

reply

You'll get nothing and like it!!

reply

You’ve bought yourself an arse kicking

reply

Oh yeah? You and the Librarian Army are kicking my ass?

I am tipping over your returned books cart because that's how I roll jerk

reply

Hey ! That takes a lot of work . Put those back

reply

Hold on, I'm heading over to the 'PERIODICAL' section and I'm going to fling them everywhere!!!

reply

Periodical means magazines stupid !

reply

Or newspapers, Captain.

How are you doing, friend?

reply

I’m alright I guess how about you

reply

I'm doing alright, too.

reply

Did you miss me

reply

Yes. Always!

reply

We don’t get physical news papers anymore

reply

You can get a free daily subscription to a kick in the shin from me

reply

Just leave it with the door man

reply

I used to get my local newspaper until the Sunday that the carrier must have used a cannon to deliver the paper from his car. It rammed through my front storm door and destroyed the screen. As much as I enjoyed reading a physical newspaper, that was the breaking point for me, especially when the newspaper publisher refused to pay the $50 it cost to repair it. They only offered an equivalent credit to offset my loss. 🙄

reply

Hahaha

reply

Yeah, it is kind of funny, but when I think about it, it really annoys me. I didn't know what to expect when I complained, but it sure wasn't their response to the issue. Oh well. They'll never get another dime from me. I've found other sources for local news.

reply

That's it!!!

You called me stupid so now I'm pushing over the Encyclopedia shelves!

Those bastards are heavy, you'll have a lot of lifting to do you goonie

reply

Encyclopedias are all online now . Have fun pushing over nothing !

reply

You should see what I did in the Cooking section!

I mixed Baking in there...total anarchy in your library ... NO prisoners

reply

Wow. You are SUCH a troublemaker, aren't you?? 😧😱

reply

Cap started this war 3 years ago and every night since I've been watching Death Wish and Taxi Driver and thinking about him...so really, who's the weirdo here?!?

reply

Wow, how did I miss this ongoing adventure??

reply

You're better off

He is my white whale and I must render him into blubber

reply

Ooh you’re one of those keto freak shows

reply

I have no idea what 'keto' is but if it means I'm super awesome and you are a goofball then yes, I suppose

reply

Don't forget that goofballs are more loveable than super awesome people. 😉🤭🤷‍♀️

reply

Well William Shatner did convince me to buy a VIC-20 in 1982.

reply

Absolutely. I drink so much beer hoping that a busload of 20-something hardbodies are going to come over and party with me, I've got "Dunlap Disease."

reply

I usually skip it or look at my phone. Advertisements online work out f it’s something I’m already interested in.
Generally, it is if no interest to me and has zero opportunity to convince me otherwise.

reply

I only have that immediate reaction to food ads. Damn, I fall for 'em! It doesn't matter if it's for restaurants or grocery store brands. But they're not totally effective because I sometimes buy a similar food from a different source.

reply

Does it depend on how hungry you are at the time you see it??

reply

Yes, but I'm often hungry. Unless I've just had a three-course Sunday dinner at my parents' house, I'm probably gonna crave that food.

reply

I get it. It's said that you shouldn't shop for groceries when you're hungry because you'll buy things you really don't need. I admit I fight that urge at times.

reply

At least you fight it. I usually buy half the store. I've also heard the opposite argument from some people. They suggested that if you shop while full, you buy more purely balanced foods, but those are likely to sit in the kitchen going to waste because you don't really want them.

I'd say there has to be a compromise: you eat just enough to maintain focus and glucose levels, but not so much that you lose interest in choosing good stuff that you will actually eat.

reply

Interesting. I've never heard the theory that if you shop when full, you'll buy a more balanced diet. Food for thought. 🤭 Yeah, "food." 😉 Actually, now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense. You're under no pressure (being hungry) so you make better choices.

reply

It's the moment of indifference when you're shopping, when you're confronted with the choice of different brands.
They want you to recognize theirs and to associate something positive with it - worth the higher price because of the additional costs of the campaign. Markets with higher customer/brand loyalty (razors for example, but also in medication vs. generic drugs) usually have the higher marketing budgets.

reply

What I really dislike are websites that have auto-play stalking videos, meaning that the video follows you as you scroll down the page. Some allow you to close the video, but some only let you mute it. There are some websites that I refuse to visit because I've discovered they stalk you with no option to close or mute it. Also websites that are so full of video ads that they slow (constipate) the site. Never going to those again...🙄

reply

Yes - I soon as I see one of those things I immediately go to a different site.
