Will Smith vs. Chris Rock at the Oscars

Who was in the right, in your opinion?

Whoever was wrong, should they face some sort of punishment?

I don't know...I think they were both at fault. Chris Rock for making a joke that Jada Pinkett Smith would be sensitive about. Will Smith for resorting to violence in response to the joke. The incident was a distraction from the other things celebrated by the Oscars.

I think Rock's punishment would be simple...never let him present at the Oscars again. As for Smith, I guess Rock should have pressed charges against Smith anyway. But let Smith keep his Oscar.

Chris Rock getting slapped by another dude, whether real or staged, makes him look like a pussy. In a real fight you get punched. Your opponent only slaps you if you appear to be a weakling.

reply

Except this was live and during a prestigious awards ceremony. Chris had to stay professional and keep composure. It made him look good and Smith a fool.

reply

If it was a stunt it would have been filled with CGI and look like a scene out of the Matrix. :-)

reply

I just watched Carol Burnett bitch slap Vicki Lawrence but it was probably staged.

reply

Will Smith ‘bitch slapped him’, no big deal. He should’ve punched his ass and knocked him out!
Muhammad Ali would’ve been proud.
He’d be out on his own recognizance in 3 hours! Catching the Vanity Fair party still in full swing.

reply

It’s entertainment regardless if it was staged or not.
As Will Smith approaches Chris Rock, slow down the movement one frame at a time. Chris Rock looks as if he is posturing with weight on his left side, in expectation of a slap. Even offering his left cheek for the slap.
“Just make sure that it’s a slap and not a punch dude.”
“I got this, in preparation for “Ali” I was trained well.”
“You better fucking be.”
They laugh.

Then again, what do I know...

Smith has big hands. He took a full swing on The Rock. Feet firmly placed not even knocking him off-balance. The only way to beat the laws of physics is to have an anticipated counter to the action!
I’m not Mr. Sheldon Cooper, but, I did stay at a Holiday Inn in the 80’s.
