😁 This is really weird. Spooky, even. Still! 😬

I stream through Roku. I have one Smart TV in my living room, and a dumb TV in my bedroom. A couple of weeks ago, somewhat late at night I was streaming a show in my bedroom when my Roku stopped streaming, stating that it was not connected. I tried to reconnect but got nowhere, and figured my internet went down. I decided to watch a DVD instead.

The next day, I discovered that my internet is fine, but the bedroom Roku still wouldn’t connect. I tried to re-set up a connection, but Roku couldn’t even find my network, or any network even though I can usually see 5 or 6 neighbors’ networks.

My next step was to swap the two Roku devices, but the other Roku won’t connect in the bedroom, either. Then I even went so far as to move the TV from the living room into the bedroom. Still no luck. I also tried moving my router from downstairs into the bedroom, but that didn’t work either. Oh, and Smartcast doesn't work, either. I’ve run out of ideas to fix this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Try unplugging and turning off EVERYTHING. Leave it for a while, then plug everything back in and reset everything.

I was away for a few days to visit family in North Dakota. I mentioned my spooky problem to my three children. Unfortunately, none of them had any brilliant suggestions or answers. Oh well. My theory of some kind of sinister force field is still possible.

My next idea is to move a TV and Roku into the hallway, just outside my bedroom to see what happens. Not this evening, though. I'm tired after our crazy weekend. Maybe tomorrow...

I swear there is a force field in my bedroom preventing the WiFi signal from coming through. I moved the TV into the hallway, right outside my bedroom. Roku connects there, but if I slide the TV into the bedroom, it disconnects. Very bizarre. What did I do to annoy the gods of WiFi??

reply

Have you tried one of those plug in extender things, it boosts your signal?
I know how annoying it is and then sometimes things randomly start working again!

Hey Dazed,

Sorry, I intended to answer you a while ago.

Actually, at one point I moved my router into my bedroom and still no luck, so it's not that.

I jerry-rigged a solution for now. I got a slightly longer cord for the Roku and now I hang it on a doorknob in the hallway, just outside my bedroom. It's flippin' unbelievable that three inches outside the room, the Roku works.

I tell ya, there's an evil force field surrounding that room. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

reply

Haha! That is bizarre, we have a firestick and we had to get a longer cord for it too, also if it hangs down the back of the TV it doesn't work correctly yet if we move it a few inches forward so it's down the side it's perfect.

Remember when watching tv was simple?

reply

I do remember! I miss being able to flip back and forth between two different shows with a single push of a button. Now, it's back out of one service, choose the other one, and search for your show. I'm also tired of trying to remember which service a show is on. I guess I should keep a list somewhere so I don't have to spend 10 minutes looking for it. It's just more complicated to watch TV these days. Too many things can go wrong.
