Worst Adaptations

What movies are the worst adaptations of their source material? The movie itself doesn’t have to be bad, but what are some films that are literally nothing like their source material to the point where there really is nothing connected between them?

reply

Well, those are two different things as you point out. "Worst" implies a bad movie. "Least faithful" might be a better descriptor.

Bond films: Pretty much always different than the book, just a question of degree.

The Shining: I like the movie, apparently Stephen King did not.

YOU EVER SEE THE KING APPROVED 90S SHINING?....I AM NOT SURE WHAT KING IS THINKING WHEN IT COMES TO THE SHINING.

reply

He was thinking: "Hey, maybe some more cocaine will help even out the drinking."

HE RECENTLY APPROVED HIS LIKENESS FOR FUNKO POPS THAT HE REFUSES TO SIGN FOR FANS.

reply

Not only did he approve, he wrote the teleplay and was the executive producer! I seem to recall that I liked it, but I really need to re-watch to say for sure. It's been a long time.

MY THOUGHTS WERE THAT IT WAS FINE...BUT NOT NEARLY AS DIFFERENT OR AN IMPROVEMENT AS KING'S COMMENTS WOULD HAVE YOU BELIEVE.

We can throw around terms like "bold new direction" all day, but I think the makers of Room (2015) completely missed the spirit of the original 2003 film.
