Can bad memories associated with a form of entertainment ruin it?

This includes movies, TV shows, songs, games, books, etc. There's a hilarious Australian TV show I love called Housos. There's a mentally disabled character named Reg. I was bullied in high school, the bullies were fans of Housos, sometimes they'd call me Reg. In case you're wondering, I'm not actually mentally disabled. I was worried it would ruin the show, but thankfully it didn't, and I was still able to laugh at the scenes with Reg. I was wondering if anyone had any similar experiences.

I guess it can for some but I had a terribly interrupted first viewing of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (1986). Family drama. It completely ruined my first viewing and I suppose I will always have that memory of watching the movie when stressful shit was going down but thankfully I've been able to enjoy it on subsequent viewings.

My girlfriend at the time told me that I was too drunk during Spider-Man 3, but I showed her!

Yeah there’s a James Blunt song that I can’t listen to because it brings back a particularly painful memory for me.

On the bright side it’s James Blunt, so I don’t mind not hearing his crappy music.

Yes. It's because of my mom's monstrous first husband that she hates the Muppets and Monty Python. Dad and I can't watch any of that with her because of him.

One reason I'm not a fan of a lot of horror flicks or MTV is partially because the idiots I want to school with were fans of that shit. Any time I heard them praising such things, I knew they weren't people I wanted to associate with, because it meant they were morons who had extremely poor taste in film and no respect for the films that I liked. That, and I don't like horror movies or trashy tv.
