William Holden vs Burt Lancaster?

who was better?

reply

Both were great actors but Lancaster is one of my all-time favourites.

reply

Lancaster.

Better actor overall, better looking, sexier. Didn't look worried all the time, the way Holden did.

reply

I like Holden a little more.

reply

They are both great movie stars, but my vote goes to

Burt Lancaster

reply

Lancaster by a mile!

Sexier, more charismatic, capable of being a MUCH better actor. Better looking too, but neither was a great looker.

But face it, Holden may have been likable, but he wasn't much of an actor, he was good in the right role but he didn't really have much range or depth. Lancaster also gave a lot of ordinary performances, and some bad ones, but he also knocked it out of the park a few times. He was just fantastic in "Elmer Gantry" and "The Sweet Smell of Success", in roles that are nearly polar opposites, and gave some legendary performances in his later years. I've never seen anything comparable from Holden.

Both very good actors, but I always found Lancaster more charismatic.

Lancaster (although it would be interesting to see what answer you'd get on the Holden boards?)
