Gillian Anderson Joins American Gods

Gillian Anderson is about to become an object of worship — beyond her usual X-Files fandom.

The Emmy-winning actress will re-team with Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller on his upcoming Starz adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel American Gods, the network announced Friday.

Anderson will guest-star in multiple episodes as Media, who’s described as “the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens — to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.”

American Gods follows recently released convict Shadow Moon (The 100‘s Ricky Whittle) as he accepts a job to become a bodyguard/traveling companion for a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday (Deadwood‘s Ian McShane). During their long journey throughout the United States, Shadow meets Mad Sweeney (Orange Is the New Black‘s Pablo Schreiber) and learns that a war is brewing between the nation’s traditional gods of mythological roots and an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs

The cast also includes Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) as Shadow’s wife Laura, Yetide Badaki as love goddess Bilquis and Bruce Langley as petulant god Technology Boy.

Sounds good but didn't she say about travelling aspect, With regards to X-files doing a mini series instead of a full season show as she now lives in England....She has contradicted herself

Or will she be in just a few episodes, And then if it gets a 2nd season do the same again

She won't have to be in Canada all the time. Just like she didn't have to be there for Hannibal all the time. Geez, not everything is about X-files. It's not the 90's anymore, she has other projects and thanks god for that.

Yea I know I remember when she was in Hannibal, I didn't say everything was about the X-files did I- But that was her response bout would she do a follow up to that mini series

That is also why I said or will she just do a few episodes, I mean her other stuff she has done has also been in the UK like: The House of Mirth, mini series:Great Expectations
TV show-The Fall,Her plays she has done in the West End:The Vagina Monologues, A Doll's House, A Streetcar Named Desire, etc etc

And FOX said they will have more news in a year from now. That could mean a lot of things.

American Gods will be shooting till September and air early 2017, I think. So it really doesn't have anything to do with XF.

What I also mean't was is that she wasn't sure if she wanted to come back for it if was going to be done in America or Canada again, As she now lives in England to commit to another series but then now seen she has with American Gods that was my point

But then I said she might do just a few episodes this season[ Unless mean't to be a one off series]- but if not then might come back and do 2 episodes for American Gods

Ah ok so if AG finishes shooting in September then she got the rest of the year to do what she wants

reply

It's different with American Gods. She's not the lead there so she won't have to spend that much time in Canada as she would with XF. It's not just that she lives in England, there are other things too as she said herself.
