Olivier Awards noms!

Of course Gillian is nominated! 

Her rivals are fantastic though: Kristin Scott Thomas, Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton.

I was sooo happy for her when I read the news. Really hope she wins because she deserves it.

Surprised to see no sign of Helen McCrory in the nom's. The other UK theater awards all seemed to center on Gillian in Streetcar or Helen in Medea.

I hope it turns out to be good news for Gillian, I really would love to see her
get this award! It's been a long desire for her to play Blanche and it would be
phenomenal if Blanche brought her the kind of validation an Olivier would give
her.

It's tonight, people! I mean, in 5-6 hours from now.

Good luck, G!!!

Sad that G didn't win - congrats to Penelope Wilton though. She's brilliant too.

I used to have an X-Files quote in my signature.

Very strong competition it was that year. Still, Helen McCrory should've been nominated instead of Kristin Scott Thomas, who really didn't deserve that nod at all!

reply

McCrory was, indeed, fantastic in Medea.

I wonder how they've decided on the final list.
With 6 nominations, I knew GA had serious threat in Penelope Wilton, whose reviews were pretty much the same as hers. Perhaps they had pushed McCrory out of the competition to finally award Wilton.
