MovieChat Forums > Jim Carrey Discussion > Throwback to Jim Carrey sexually assault...

Yeah, I actually remember that. Adrien Brody did the same thing when he won his Oscar.

It was weird, and don’t agree with it. Jim Carrey has a commentary now about what Will Smith did. I don’t disagree with what Carrey said though.

Carrey definitely wasn’t the best person to make that commentary, but he wasn’t wrong either. I mean, I’m sure that there’s a more “wholesome” opinion that’s on board with the same opinion.

reply

Brody's kiss was hot. Halle's reaction priceless.

Carey's wasn't hot at all. Nothing sexy about a 35 year old forcing himself on a teenage girl.

Carey shouldn't have opened this can of worms by commenting on Will.

reply

Well, to be fair, Silverstone wasn’t a teenager, but I get your point. Carrey wasn’t the best person to make that commentary, but it also doesn’t mean that he’s wrong with what he said.

I agree with what Carrey said, but I also think that it would have played better if someone else had the balls to say it.

reply

What he said wasn't correct. Why sue for that much?

reply

Hmmm…these are celebrities that live a life that the average person couldn’t fathom. His “$200 Million Dollar” lawsuit obviously seems crazy to the average person. However, Chris Rock is forever going to be known as the celebrity that got slapped at the Oscars, and that quick, impulsive moment theoretically diminishes his persona/brand. I get what Carrey is saying, even if it’s over the top. What Carrey didn’t really consider, is that the moment actually worked in Rock’s favor - people generally seem to be on Rock’s side, and are generally more sympathetic towards him. Oddly enough, Rock is the talk of the town, and his comedy tour is going to be a big success because of it.

Jim Carrey was in the wrong 25 years ago, Will Smith was in the wrong Sunday night, Hollywood is still in the wrong and has been all of this time.

Jim Carrey should apologise to Alicia Silverstone and Will Smith should be banned for a couple of years from attending the Oscars seeing as Smith's actions cast a pall over the whole event that night.

Also Jim was asked about what he thought to the Will Smith slap in an interview promoting Sonic 2 and he gave an honest response and even said he had nothing against Will Smith. What did they expect him to say? "No comment." Jim seems to have changed for the better in the last 25 years and he's able to recognize clearly wrong actions now like Will Smith slapping Chris Rock whereas back in the 90s Jim probably did let all of his fame and acclaim go to his head.

Will Smith on the other hand I think needs some help now and I hope he gets it, he's a great actor and nearly always comes across as a nice guy in interviews.

reply

Smith .... banned for life.
Charged with the crime, booked, spend a night in jail, tired, sentenced, spends a couple months in jail.

Perfectly written reply here.

reply

YES...YES IT IS.

reply

Having someone suddenly grab your face and force their mouth on yours for laughs is gross. Women don't like that tom.

reply

Maybe he learned something from that experience.

reply

Based on that clip my guess is he thought people would think it was so hilarious, wacky, unexpected to do an exaggerated long kiss instead of a normal handshake, hug or kiss on the cheek. I feel like I’ve seen him (or someone) do this to an old lady just for the laughs. Instead he looks like a creep because she was young and attractive and doesn’t seem to be in on the “joke”.

reply

I remember those days when people were far stronger mentally. Today, most women would collapse in a fetal position and suck their thumbs if they were offended by that.

If Silverstone was offended, she would have knee'd his nuts.

reply

Just because someone is offended doesn't mean they have to commit a certain action.

From the look on her face, she not only seemed caught off guard, but looked very embarrassed and unhappy about it.

reply

Yeah. He probably should have remembered that incident before he decided to give such self-righteous criticism of Will Smith. Alicia Silverstone has to deal with a video of you forcing an unwelcomed kiss (sexual assault) on her being around forever too Jim.

reply
