can't he just retire already?

His recent films have all been bland, predictable Oscar bait projects that offer no particular insight into the human condition nor showcase any of his filmmaking prowess back when he had some. They are all flatly directed, boring films that Clint himself doesn't even seem that interested in as he sounds as though he could not care less when talking about them during interviews. Other than to continue winning Oscars and stroke about his ego, there honestly doesn't seem to be any reason as to why he's still making movies right now.

reply

Just don't watch them if it bugs you that much.

reply

Exactly. I really don't understand why people bother complaining like this. Just a complete waste of time. You don't like his recent stuff? Move on. Personally I'd rather watch a "bland" Eastwood film than 80% of the garbage that comes out today.

He's making movies because he can and he loves it. Not to mention he's a bankable name for studios plus historically he's given a lot to cinema. I agree that his (directed) films are sot of hit and miss but even at that I find them all watchable.

I don't think you get what it's like to have a burning artistic desire as you can't just stop doing what gets you the most excited, it doesn't work that way.

Besides, do you realise how much stressful work goes in to making a film? No director or actor fully knows how the film is really going to turn out becasue there are so many variables involved and for Clint to sill be doing this at 86 years old is worthy of praise, not criticism.

Besides, he's not hurting anyone and if you don't like his films then you don't have to watch them so I don't see what your problem is?

But he's clearly not like that. He works like a machine now. Doing everything with the utmost efficiency but without any artistry or passion.

Except when you're doing it poorly and with zero passion left, it's probably time to call quits. Every artist needs to know their time. As Quentin Tarantino once said, it's better to leave with the audience wanting more as opposed to them begging you to get off the stage. Eastwood has clearly crossed that line by now.

reply

You're bland. Don't watch his movies.

reply

Exactly.

His movies make money, the public still loves him, and he seems to enjoy what he is doing. He is one of the wealthiest actors in show business, so it's unlikely that money is driving this decision. He could have retired ages ago, if he wanted to.

If he's still having a good time, and the public is still buying tickets, then I say more power to him.

reply

so it's unlikely that money is his driving decision

Yes, there's no such thing as a rich person who just wants to make more money.

What a stupid reply in more ways than one.

Like you would know from personal experience 😂

Happily, the bitter OP is gone, perhaps a result of choking on his own envious bile.

He’s Clint fucking Eastwood. You are not, nor ever shall be.
