Hmm, only in movies I'd say, not overall. Fox is more well-known than Stolz, don't forget about his successful sitcom Spin City back in the 90s. I'm sure that besides his illness, Fox' stature also got in the way.
shareI have never thought of Michael as a great actor, he has some good movies and shows for sure and has been able to carry out some decent roles but in my own humble opinion, I have always felt Eric Stoltz is the better actor. I also agree with Stratego that Michael's illness came on pretty early and that was a big factor as well.
Sadly. I actually enjoy Michael J Fox and loved his movies and shows. I would have loved to see him continue.

In my mind MJF is a household name; while Stolz is no slouch, I doubt many “people on the street” could place him beyond the guy from The Mask.
