But wha really destroyed her career?

She seemed to be at the top, then she toppled rather abruptly. Was it one of her films? Was it her breakup with Bruce Willis? Was it the fact that her nickname was Gimme More? I heard that she was horribly ridiculous with her demands. Did studios just get sick of her behavior? I'm really curious, what killed her career?

Demi was a workhorse for several years. She had many projects on her plate during the mid nineties. Striptease and G.I. Jane among them (also her most high profile roles) where she put a lot of effort in, from training in pre production reshaping her body to promotion...but in the end the reward wasn't there. Her performances were panned, the box office did not see successful returns according to Hollywood standards. When you think you are doing good work, but ultimately being criticized from audiences while producers are raising eyebrows and worst of all this, amidst a divorce, Demi chose to walk away. In my opinion not one film "ended" Demi's career. It was a combination of things. While she was "retired" to Idaho with her daughters, she was turning down roles and not until offered "Charlie's Angels" and when, according to Demi her daughters asked "Are you ever going to work again?" did she decide to make a comeback. Had Demi not been married to Ashton Kutcher, I feel she would have barreled through and worked more during the years they were together, but she was content to see him through his endeavors while taking on a role or two a year. Although Demi has had some great albeit small roles the past 10 years, her films didn't see wide releases and it still seems that she has never been able to fully breakthrough again. She'll never be the star she was in the 90's, mainly because Hollywood (and audiences) can be ageist, but her screen presence is definitely missed and her career certainly is not over. I can foresee some fantastic performances in the next 10 years. I do long for the days when Demi had 3-4 projects releasing each year. I also miss her on the big screen.

My view is that when she got the huge fake boobs, and decided to star in a terribly written film, strippers, it all came down. This was at a time actresses weren't getting the overly big bolt ons (now that I think about it, NO serious, good actress gets them now), and she chose to be in a film to show them off. Of course the writing/story and acting were sub par, so that didn't help. She wanted the attention, and got it...but NOT in a good way. For her career.

Please.

She is utterly humorless, audiences just did not (do not) LIKE her. She takes herself so seriously. She is arrogant, too.

She is not aging well. She can't get over losing her boy toy and AGING. Acts and dresses way too young, foolishly.

She smoked (smokes) crack and bath salts and makes a fool of herself at parties. Her family was (is) appalled at her snorting, smoking, inhaling weird stuff you would think a dysfunctional 14 year old would be into. A proper aging Hollywood matron sticks with coke.

This former A+ list mostly movie actress who has multiple celebrity offspring and multiple A list exes had to drop out of an upcoming project

. It was drugs. The studio wouldn’t greenlight it with her involved.

Yes. The return on her films was erratic, and it became clear she wasn't the sort of popular star that people would just flock to see regardless of what they were in.

The fact that she was demanding and unpleasant to work with simply made producers pass her over, eventually.

I like her performances in If These Walls could Talk and Mortal Thoughts...but those aside, she doesn't appear to be BLAZINGLY talented. So that's not really a mark in her favor, either.
