I always liked her as an actress and she has a great presence,,but she does something when she sings that I never liked. Perhaps somebody can explain why her vibratto at the end of a lyric is very shaky/wavers too much. Other singers don't do this; Suzanne Somers does also,actually.
I know what you're talking about but I have no idea why she does it. I've always thought singing was the least of her talents imo and she was a better dancer and actress than singer.

shareI think Somers is a terrible singer but I know exactly what you're referring to. It was really noticeable in Tommy when she sang "Rain Champagne" and reminds me of Liza Minnelli's singing.

shareI saw Ann-Margret some years ago (1980s I believe) so I have heard her sing "live". I've got a pretty good musical ear - and don't remember this. Perhaps this is considered in motion pictures vocal characterization.

She has a nice voice, but her vibrato at the end of each line(lyric) is a compacted quivering-like tempo. Suzanne Somers does the same thing. It's as if the vibrato is saved for the end, and sounds trembly and too quick.
I had the album Cheryl Ladd put out with her hit "Think it Over". The song was catchy but c'mon...she was no singer.

(Suzanne is just imitating Monroe.)
And as for Liza's vibrato ... well ... that's the result of years of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and improper belting. There is nothing sexy about it.
