First Major muscular Action Hero

In the 90's there was tons of magazines stating this fact and it is true. Apart from Steve Reeves and little lesser stars Bronson was the only major star in the 50's to his super stardom to have that Stallone body i call it, tight and toned. Clint didnt really beef up till late 70's. Charlie was absolutely immense in those early films including Mag7 that the rest of the actors was jealous of his body. Anyway he was the first major action tough guy star to show this, Then Burt Reynolds, Clint, Sly then the Mighty Arnold.

I wouldn't consider Burt or Clint's physique extraordinary. That said I'd probably say it started with the Tarzan series. Burt Lancaster had a great physique also and would have been before Bronson.

Na Clint and Burt Rey had better bodies before him... Burt Lan was trim but no way like Bronson... Hell look at charlie in crimewave you can tell other actors envy that body. Burt Lan was just tall and trim not ripped.

They showed Hard Times last night and I wasn't that impressed by Charlie's physique. He looked like a guy who was very trim and did a lot of push ups but he certainly didn't have the physique of a bodybuilder. I still say Burt Lancaster had a better physique.

Lancaster did have a better physique. He was an athlete, whereas Bronson was just a bodybuilder. Those are two very different things--the former functional, the latter cosmetic.

Eh... How can you say that, Burt had a slim but none muscly physique. Plus you saying that about Charlie shows you that you don't see him like a lot do... Go look up on images of Bronson from the 50's, Check the film Crimewave then report back to me. He was very Stallone if not Bigger then stallone.

I don't think anyone has ever claimed he looks like a bodybuilder. That never really was his body type, so if that was what you were expecting, go figure.

By the way, he was around 53-54 when he made Hard Times.

Right Chuck... He was very bulky and tight early in his career... Something Burt Lan was not.

Come on, Burt looked like he had 2 grapefruits for shoulders, was like 6' 2" and had that V shape from his shoulders to his waist. Bronson never had that.

You need glasses pal... Seriously. Look at these.. Burt was tall but not as big as charlie in body.. Charley had a build like Sly.

Lancaster was an athlete, Bronson more of a bodybuilder. If I was in a situation where I needed agility and speed, I'd rather be Lancaster. If I was on a stage, slathered with baby oil, trying to win a trophy, I guess I'd rather be Bronson.
