Believing him as a human being and when he plays villains

Don't get me wrong I'm not criticizing Jeremy Irons or his acting in any way. It's just a matter of having seen The Lion King, then later in Die Hard with a Vengeance. Those were the first movies I saw starring him, and in that order. Seeing Die Hard with a Vengeance I can't help but think of him as an over-the-top cartoon villain in human form. Since then I can't help but find him more funny than evil when he plays villains.

If you've not already seen it, I'd highly recommend watching DEAD RINGERS. The level of complexity he reaches in that movie, playing identical twins who you can actually tell apart thanks to his performance, definitely cast him in a new light for me! It's an interesting role (well, two roles) in part because you get to see him move through every shade of gray between villain and "good guy" in one go. Catch it if you can track it down. :-)

he played over the top villain in dungeons & dragons and it wasn't nearly as good as how he was in lion king and die hard with a vengeance.
