I was watching Ghostbusters last night on AMC and I picked up on that. Even Ernie Hudson smoked.
I don't know what Harold Ramis did in real life, but I noticed that in the movie, he didn't drink either.
The scene where they are eating Chinese food shows Aykroyd and Murray drinking Budweisers. Egon is drinking an (original) Coke.
He did drink coffee, though, "have some!"
Perhaps Egon was a "scientist" who knew not to smoke or drink.
