Best Movie Adaptation

So many to choose from. Even the ones that were filmed onstage are great, but I am thinking of feature films. Loose adaptations may be considered too, like West Side Story, Lion King, or 10 Things I Hate About You.

My personal favorite is 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet. Old fashioned I know. But the acting is superb, from top to bottom the cast has it down, especially the terrific Olivia Hussey. So dramatic and yet so relatable.

Throne of Blood, by the master Akira Kurosawa

Is that something different from "RA" which I really liked (supposed to be King Lear.)

You mean Ran? been a long time since i watched it, but yeah, its different. They are both great.

I love King Lear so I'll have to check it out.

Julius Caesar (1953). Brando is amazing.

Kenneth Branagh's Henry V hooked me.

Man yeah that one is good. The St. Crispin's speech is killer.

That's my favorite, too. The whole thing is first-rate, from the music score to the sword fight between Leonard Whiting and Michael York. Neither of those has anything to do with Shakespeare, of course, but they contribute to the appeal of this adaptation of his play.
