Who gave her the right to *beep* on others idea of "ART"?

I know each person is entitled to their own opinion, and it was more than obvious that Meryl used her platform as a well established actor to express her political vies on Trump and his presence in office. But who the *beep* is she to *beep* on another persons way of performing in the field of MMA and not call 'Mixed Martial ARTS" NOT ART? Real art is about expression, the expression of the human mind, body, and soul. Martial art is exactly as it is, an ART form, just because it is something that this overrated actress (That is how I see her now after her speech) dose not find entertaining, that does not make it any less an art form. Both fighters exist in a ring of skill and dedication to their chosen art. The result, is in seeing who is the one who brings the most of their talent to the ring. A fighter on their own does not make a fight exist, a second performer is needed in order to complete the others dedication to their art. Both fighters are part of the same expression of their art.

Then by that logic, she has no right to hide behind some idea that it is wrong to call her and "Overrated Actress" or make fun of her political views against Trump. If this is the case, she has no right to really be defended. She made a political statement, then she is up for ridicule, and no amount of Gender protection or left wing opinion should allow to be free of that. Despite liberals doing all they can to attack those who criticize her. If Trump deserves everything her gets in the negative, then so does she.

I did not think of it that way, I did not see it as she meant to be rude to fighters or anything like that. I don´t know what she meant by that specific example.

She is obviously a smart woman, she should have known this sort of thing was going to be taken as a form of disrespect. She should have no excuses. Its one thing to try and make a point. Its another in being disrespectful to another persons chosen lifestyle and belittling it. If being a fighter was easy, along with Martial Arts in general, everybody would be able to do it. Just because Meryl has a platform to speak her opinion, does not mean she is right to insult other people the way she did who were not even really part of her overall message. The way she got upset about Trump making fun of the way a disabled person moves in my opinion is no different than her disrespecting an art that these men and women of MMA practiced and dedicated themselves to. Although it is more politically incorrect to diss on disabled people, she none the less did something similar in her speech. But its okay to insult fighters and practitioners of Martial Arts in her mind, because they don't belong to some kind of minority.

She does have the right of freedom of speech and she has the right to disrespect anyone. Unfortunately I must disagree with you regarding whether she is smart or not. Only someone so steeped in her own beliefs would not recognize she was disrespecting others cannot be too bright. She also can be elitist and decide what is "art" in her world but she cannot decide what is "art" to the whole world. Surely some of the stinkers she's made cannot be considered art. Her stance on air was a form of bullying and disrespect hiding in what she thought was political rhetoric. The whole thing shone the light on who she is personally, and I don't mean a saavy political pundit. I doubt whether she will ever recognize negatively what she presented to the rest of the world. She probably is still wrapped up in that standing ovation from the sheep of her peers in Hollywood.

But also realize that what Meryl hinted at was fear that the more traditional outlets for trained actors - i.e. cinema, TV series, and live theatre - would somehow fall by the wayside under a Trump presidency. (How realistic that fear is up for debate, of course.) In other words, Meryl doesnt want a society in which football and MMA are our SOLE entertainment options.
