Can you Belive he was close to direct Quills?

Can you people believe he was considered by the fox company to direct Quills.

To be honest as much as I liked Basic Instinct Im glad he didn't direct this.
He would have given the movie a campy and way to over the top tone.

Geoffrey wouldn't have been nominatted if he directed the film and would have ruined Kate Winslet and Joaquin Phoneix careers.

The only positive thing i could have imagined with him as the director.
We would have seen the affair with the marquis and Madeline instead of just a sample loll
And he would have corrupted the abbé completely.

Not just being tempted and maybe Verhoven would have created a really intense and very expilcit love triangle

Were the actors already cast when he was approached to direct?

Yes, it just might've turned out somewhat similar to Flesh+Blood. But as Rutger Hauer quoted him saying (went something like): 'I don't like this thinking sh!t, I want to do action.' I liked Quills for what it was. Paul's movies have a Mad Max feel about them, but with people instead of cars.

Haha, great line!

and arthouse. A film is a goddam film."
