Sean Young should have been a bigger star. What happened?

I don't buy the excuse she couldn't act. Was she Meryl Streep? No. But she was okay. She did well in Blade Runner, Dune, Cousins, Wall Street (most of her part was cut out).

People bring up the Catwoman thing like it was bad, she was just committed. Now people would put iot on social media if Jess Chastain did that. And originally she was meant to play Vicki Vale but she fell off a horse.

I personally like Sean Young. She had star charisma and I still think her performance in BLADE RUNNER was the best after Rutger Hauer.

She was unwilling to participate in the casting couch!! I love her!!

Where do guys get this stuff?

She ruined her career when she overdid trying to campaign for Catwoman back in the 1990s.

On top of everything else, Demi Moore wound up overshadowing her and Debra Winger, two raven-haired actresses that were being pushed in the 1990s as the next big thing. Once Moore broke out, everyone forget them and any other actress who had that raven-haired look, including Phoebe Cates.

I believe the actress herself.

"Blade Runner" actress Sean Young told the Daily Beast that she believes her career was derailed by a handful of Hollywood's most powerful male directors including Ridley Scott, Steven Spielberg, and Warren Beatty, who labeled her as "difficult" and blacklisted her from major roles.

Young, now 61, played the role of Rachael, Harrison Ford's love interest in "Blade Runner." Some of Young's other credits include 1994's "Ace Ventura" and 1984's "Dune." But in the past, Young has spoken openly about the difficulties working in Hollywood. In 2015, she told The Guardian that Warren Beatty sacked her from 1990's "Dick Tracy" after she declined his advances, which Beatty has denied.

In the Daily Beast interview, Young talks about a 2009 interview she gave to Carl Reiner in which Reiner implied that Young's reputation had been unfairly smeared by a famous director who he does not name. When asked whether the director Reiner was referring to was Beatty, Young said: "Warren was definitely one of them. Steven Spielberg was another."

I love it when people who don't know about something because they weren't there splash you a gigantic wall of text and then tell you to "continue reading."

I don't need to continue reading. You need to listen to people who were around at the time something happened.

Sean Young ruined her career with her Catwoman stunt. Before that stunt, everyone remembered her as the sultry love interest from Blade Runner and an A List actress. But then she walked around in a Catwoman stunt, and that cheapened her image and made her look like she was crazy. Afterwards, she started starring in junk like Fatal Instinct, Ace Ventura (playing a transgender, no less) and in soap operas.

It didn't help matters that she started getting arrested and appearing in public drunk:

She earned a reputation for being a loose cannon--that's what happened. She pulled a major stunt whining that she should've been Catwoman, even going so far as to dress up as the character. Her career never recovered.

She was also overshadowed by Demi Moore, I believe. There was a big push for raven-haired It Girls in the 1980s and Moore stole their thunder when she broke out with Ghost.

Isn't she stark raving nucking futs?

reply

That's what I heard a long time ago. That she was crazy, spoiled, volatile, couldn't get along with most of the people in any production she was involved in.

One story I've heard is that James Woods ruined her career. He either harassed her and spread horrible rumors about her when she wouldn't put out, or they were involved and she went nuts after the breakup, but either way he allegedly ruined her career.

I suppose it was possible, he was a big cheese in those days and might have had enough influence back in the day. But if it's true, Karma came for him at last, and he eventually lost his career for being crazy, too.

reply

Well she certainly is a lot bigger now!

Management by fear
All those woman back in the day had to put up in order to work. If they declined the boys club would just block them. Behind every actress is 1000 woman willing to let decision makers ejaculate in her mouth for work. Sad but true. Sean Young might not have handled the pressure that well. You have to sacrifice something to gain fame! I wish her the best.
