What language did he have to learn to speak in the Passion of Christ

Does anyone know whether he had to learn the language that he speaks in the Passion of Christ (and what language it is - Hebrew?) or if he already knew the language? I didn't realize that the movie was not in English but was subtitled.

The primary language in that movie was Aramaic.

He also spoke Latin to Pilate. No one prob caught that, and he spoke ancient Aramaic.
