I don't blame Ellen. She had a decent run with her show. Honestly mainstream audiences are way too homophobic and reserved for someone like Ellen.
She tried to entertain everyone. That's what matters.

Issues regarding Ellen's rampant anger issues and demeaning behavior have gone back to the 90's, before she was a household name. Obviously, it is something very relevant and should be addressed. You point the finger at mainstream audiences being homophobic but 90% of her fanbase was made up of suburban moms who definitely weren't LGBT.
