Top 3 Roles?

Captain Fantastic
Eastern Promises
Lord of the Rings

All 3 "Lord of the Rings" movies, duh!

reply

Lord of the Rings sucked and its only one film.

reply

It's one film split into 3. Get your facts straight. And they do not suck. They're better than whatever crap you watch.

reply

Right it’s one film split into 3, I can do that with whatever movie I want to. And yes The LOTR movie did not respect the source material at all, it was also riddled with bad pacing, plot holes, character flaws etc that the book didn’t have. It did suck

reply

So LOTR is better than The Godfather? Chinatown? One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest? Rosemary’s Baby? Taxi Driver? Apocalypse Now? Psycho? 2001 A Space Odyssey? Vertigo? Casablanca? Platoon? Pulp Fiction? What are you smoking?

reply

Depends. Which version did you see? The last two LOTR theatrical versions did suck because they overemphasized action scenes. The director's DVD version with 45 minutes of story and character development added to each film were needed and improved them. Thirty minutes were added to the first film which was already good. The director's version is a masterpiece. My only criticism would be with the SFX of Gandalf's fight with Balrog otherwise it was visually stunning especially the different cities and villages, costumes and cinematography.

To be fair, Godfather 3 sucks. 2001 was mainly boring with too slow pacing. Pulp Fiction was OK. All three had great soundtracks.

"it was also riddled with bad pacing, plot holes, character flaws etc that the book didn’t have."

Books are usually better. I couldn't get past the first few pages of the LOTR books even though the Hobbit book was great.

Anyway, OP question was about Viggo's three best performances:
LOTR, A History of Violence, Captain Fantastic

Nikolai in Eastern Promises
Tom in A History of Violence
Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy

But I haven't seen Green Book yet.

The Road might have made my list - Mortensen rocks that role - but I didn't like the film very much, so I edged in Tom instead.

A History of Violence
