Why hasn't he gotten better roles?

He was great in Saving Private Ryan.

Funny you post this because I was just thinking about Berry Pepper a few days ago. I was wondering what happened to him and then BAM I watched Crawl and there he was.

He definitely has fallen off the radar, though looking at his filmography I realize he has continued to work, and has continued to work in some notable films like the Maze Runner series. But he seems to usually only do about one project a year, and I wonder if that's because that's all he wants to work or because that's all he's offered.

He's certainly a talented guy, with a distinctive look.

One movie: Battlefield Earth (2000).

Nah, he's been in several good movies since then. I would recommend *61 in particular, especially for anyone who likes Baseball films.

reply

*61 IS AMAZING...BILLY CRYSTAL REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THAT ONE.

Yeah, I was surprised to learn that he was the director. I did not even know that he had ever even directed a film.

Today I went to Redbox and saw there was a new movie called Trigger Point that starred Barry Pepper. I was like, "Barry Pepper, where the fuck's that guy been?" Then I looked him up on IMDB and realized that I had seen three of his last four movies -- Running with the Devil, Crawl and Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

He's a good, charismatic actor with a distinctive look but for some reason he's almost always relegated to supporting roles.

He played the villain in the Coen Brothers’ remake of True Grit. He was fantastic and coincidentally his character’s name was Ned Peppers

I saw that film, but only once when it first came out. I remember little about it and don't remember him being in it but I did notice it on his filmography.

Might have to give that one a second look at some point.

Here’s a pretty intense scene with him from the movie. See if it clicks in your memory

Honestly it doesn't ring a bell but that scene does show off his talent as an actor.

Thanks for the link.

reply

Because he doesn’t deserve them.

Duh.

reply

Eh, I think he's an underrated performer.

You don't like Barry Pepper?

reply

I agree! I have really admired him in several of his movies. He's quite versatile and I would like to have seen him take some much bigger roles.

reply

LUCK I GUESS...HE AND SAM ROCKWELL ARE TWO OF THE TOP ACTORS WORKING RIGHT NOW IN MY BOOK AND NEITHER GETS THE ROLES/CREDIT THEY DESERVE.

reply

I feel like Rockwell has gotten a lot more acclaim and notoriety than Pepper.

reply

THAT IS TRUE...NOT THE LEVEL HE DESERVES THOUGH...NINE OUT OF TEN PEOPLE I SAY SAM ROCKWELL TO...ANSWER...WHO?

Bad agents would be my guess.

Both of those guys are talented as hell. They both have a really distinct presence onscreen, that stands out among the crowd. And they both had multiple standout supporting roles when they were young. They had all the potential in the world to be huge.

The only thing I can think of is that they had horrible representation "guiding" their careers.
