The Patrick Swayze effect - I didn't realize he was dead

I didn't realize Roy Scheider was dead until I just visited this board today, Feb 15, 2023, when I saw him trending for an unrelated post.

He died 15 years ago and I had no idea. The same phenomenon occurred with me when I learned of Patrick Swayze's death many years after the fact.

I think that has a lot to do with it. They weren't in the public eye for a long time, so they were not missed when they were gone and it wasn't necessarily big or shocking news at the time.

I found out a couple of months ago, quite by accident, and I was in absolute shock. I didn't even know she was sick, let alone dead!

15 years is a long time not to know someone has died. I don't think anyone can top that, you win 🙂
