Sad to hear.
He has a new film releasing at the end of next month, Master Gardener starring Joel Edgerton and Sigourney Weaver. It was filmed February 2022.
Here's two photos of him on set. Some sort of breathing apparatus? And one eye covered. It seems he's been having issues for over a year now.

His screenplays for Taxi Driver and Raging Bull were great. I'm also a big fan of Cat People which he directed and wrote.
