I can't think of him as the greatest actor ever. I would however, consider him one of, if not THE most underrated character actor alive.

He is a wonderful actor and extremley under rated. I like the fact that he has done a lot of quality critically acclaimed movies such as 'Do The Right Thing' and numerous Cohen brother's films, but he's also done plenty of main stream movies too such as Transformers and various Adam Sandler Flicks.

I've generally seen him in supporting roles or as part of an ensemble but he took the lead in a 1997 film called 'The Truce' where he was terrific.

The guy is a legend IMO, definitely underrated without a doubt and one of my favourite actors, I guess it's because he has a strong 'ethnic' look about him (he looks either Jewish, kind of Italian or Arab) because he's half Italian/Mexican, that he's most well known for playing a Jew (Barton Fink/Quiz Show, amongst two of his best) Italian in Do the Right Thing and Millers Crossing (also his best) and an Arab in Zohan (NOT one of his best). Hollwyood needs to get it's sh!t together and stop being so damn racist, it's just a waste of talent.

Italian actors were huge in the 70s (Deniro/Pacino were pretty much filling seats) I guess if he was around at that time he'd be more appreciated.

I'm not sure about that but he's always a pleasure to watch.
