The world was too big for Richard Franklin and Brian de Palma
They are both enamored Hitchcock and you can see it in their work, particularly in Road Games, which is so reminiscent of, say, De Palma's Dressed to Kill. I think Franklin made a mistake when he accepted to direct Psycho II, because I think it solidified his image as a Hitchcock fanboy, and may have hurt his career going forward.
