He was larger for that particular role. According to his interviews,he likes to stay under 170 pounds and he was at least ten pounds over that for "Avatar".

He's a bit over 5'10"and pretty small boned,so it seems about right. According to the second article,he was around 182 for "Avatar". Whatever-looks great to me!
