My Thoughts on Kevin

I love Kevin Smith. His stuff has gotten me through so much.

His 1st few movies defined a segment of a generation. His work spoke to us. We related. I'll always love his guy.

I thought Jay and Bob Strikes Back was fun. I thought Jersey Girl was pretty good too. I LOVE Clerks II.

But Zach & Miri was a disappointment. The heart just wasn't there and I think his career turned. I'm not sure what happened.

Cop Out was cheesy but fun. Red State was fair, but didn't feel like a Kevin Smith movie.

Maybe Smith was right when he spoke about how he doesn't have the passion to tell the stories like he had in the past.

He was a young writer with a lot to say. I think he would prefer to be known as a writer verses a director. His ideas were refreshing. He had to direct, because no one else would have been able to tell his stories.

I think his best work now comes from his podcasts. Hollywood Babble-On & Jay and Bob Get Old are a lot of fun and I listen regularly, but I miss Kevin Smith movies.

Hope he gains his mojo back with Clerks III. Not sure he can recapture the magic, but I will buy a ticket.

One more thought; I wonder what Smith would be without Mewes. I think Mewes deserves a lot of credit for his success and vice versa. I don't think one would exist without the other. The kid is special.

He doesn't read these you know.

That's why it wasn't addressed to him personally and kept refering to him in the third person and not second.

Let's be bad guys.

Good post, I like that you really seemed to think about him and not just lash out like a lot of Smith haters.

I think like a lot of artists he's going through some changes and that can lead to some lesser work. Look at Cameron Crowe or Rob Reiner.

Maybe you'd like my video series about him, where I take a look at all the work he's done. Getting to CLERKS II next video!
