shareHe struck me as the type to fold like wet cardboard if life got a little tough to handle. That he would resort to stealing to fill in the rough spots and most likely spent some time in prison over it. I get that Red thought he could fix Hyde but Hyde is the type of guy who needs that supervision to stay on the straight and narrow. So once Hyde was expected to carry his own weight he could not do so.
