Howard Stern

So, I was watching some interviews with Mary McCormack and she said that her dream guest star on IPS would be Howard Stern. Does anyone know why? Personally I can't stand Howard Stern, he just so gross. I don't understand how anyone can be around him. I do know, though, that she was in a movie with him at one point. Is that the reason she wants him to guest star?

They were in Private Parts together and hit it off?

I'm coming down with a case of mood poisoning. Must be something I hate.

I think it was always pretty clear that she had a big crush on him after Private Parts. She even followed him to the Playboy mansion when he was single and doing a show there. I think there was a time there that she was trying to get him.

Before Private Parts, the consensus on Stern among non-listeners was that he was a creepy sex addict pervert. Listeners loved him for making their miserable morning commutes fun - he was the first guy to do that on radio - but non-listeners just hated him. After the movie and after seeing the human side of Stern, that he was married to the same woman and faithful to her for decades and there was actually a love story there, that he's got a bunch of daughters, and that he's actually got warm eyes and isn't THAT creepy looking when the camera closes in on his face, women became a lot more fond of him. He's just a really funny guy who innovated radio and is honest to a fault.

Don't get me wrong, people (like you) still hate Stern for no reason, but when you listen to him regularly you can't help but love the guy. He's a genius, there's no question about that. He's an innovator. There aren't that many people in radio or comedy that didn't look up to him growing up.

I've listened to Howard Stern and I don't like him. but if I'm not mistaken didn't he and his wife separate in 1999 and then he started dating his current wife in 2000, he and his first wife didn't divorce until 2001, he re-married in 2008.

I don't listen to satellite radio, but I believe one of the main reasons he moved to satellite radio was that he didn't like doing terrestrial radio anymore, and he thought droves of his listeners would move with him they didn't. If Sirius and XM hadn't merged they both would have failed. Howard Stern was one of Sirius biggest acquisitions. As to his honesty, people have a public persona and then there is the real persona that isn't on the radio, in film or television. I think only someone who personally knows them can say who they really are in real life.

Who people like or dislike is a matter of personal preference, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You can't say everyone that listens to Howard Stern will love him.

Yes, almost every celebrity is different in private than they are in public. Howard often does a character on the show and has admitted to that. But as a fan it's very easy to tell when he's being a character and when he's being himself. Especially in recent years the show is much more him being himself. The show used to have a lot more manufactured, pre-written bits, now it's mostly just Howard commenting on different topics in the news/tabloids and having a conversation with Robin. You listen to someone for 5 hours in the early morning 4 days a week, if you're a sharp person you can start to pick up on what kind of person they are. Radio is quite a bit different than any other form of media. When you're on for that amount of time, it's impossible to always hide behind a mask. Especially when you're doing a show that's all about honesty.

You can't fault the guy for getting divorced. It wasn't because he did anything wrong, it was just a case of growing apart. I think he's got a pretty stand-up record when it comes to family. His kids clearly adore him.

As for the move to Sirius, get your facts right. He immediately brought 6 million new subscribers with him to Sirius. No one else could have done that. You think Oprah could have gotten that many people to buy satellite radios? People would have said, "I like Oprah, but I also love holding onto my money." I'm sure millions more have gotten subscriptions largely because of him. If you saw the CEO of Sirius on Charlie Rose recently, it seemed like a third of the interview he was talking about Howard. Howard is Sirius. The company is struggling with Howard on-board, imagine what would have happened to it without him. It would have dissolved years ago. He has nothing to do with the business side of it. All he can do is bring subscribers. It's estimated that about 12 million people listen to his show daily. What more can you ask of him? People bash him as if he's insignificant now, yet if he went back to terrestrial radio there isn't a sensible person out there who wouldn't predict that he'd go straight to #1. It's like calling Curb Your Enthusiasm an insignificant show because it's on HBO and a lot more people watch the sitcoms on CBS. Well it's still the best comedy on TV.

My facts are correct if Sirius had been making money it would not have had to merge with XM Satellite companies don't merge with other companies if they're both doing well, they merge because neither one can survive if both keep battling it out and there were only two licenses given by the FCC for satellite radio, read the financial reports and news articles, All of those 6 million subscribers obviously didn't stay.

Please explain to me if Sirius XM was doing so great why did Liberty Media owner of DirecTV acquire 40% of Sirius XM, with rights to acquire another 11%?, because it was to keep Sirius XM from filing bankruptcy. It will also give Liberty Media a majority share of ownership in in the company if they option to buy the other remaining 11%, they invested 530 million to save Sirius XM. If Liberty Media hadn't stepped in, Sirius XM would have been transmitting dead air.

Sirius provided a budget of approximately $500 million to pay Stern, his staff, it also included an additional one-time stock bonus for Stern and his agent, as a subscriber quota set in 2004 was met, that bonus was worth approximately $218 million. The 530 million Liberty Media invested was a loan, and was used to pay debt, gee i wonder where most of that debt came from? Do the math, they were bleeding money, to pay for talent, they only have about 18 to 20 million subscribers, again do the math, those 18 to 20 million subscribers aren't paying enough to pay for Howard Stern, let alone any of the other talent they have, and they're still not out of the woods, and Howard Stern's contract is up at the end of this year, and he may not be around when it expires, and Sirius XM is still bleeding customers.

So you should get your facts straight.

FYI a CEO of any company doing an interview says good things about their product offerings or service, it's their job to inspire confidence in their company.

I've never seen a CEO give an interview on television, a magazine, a newspaper or on the radio, saying we offer a crappy product or service.
