Unworthy of a Star on HWOF

It's not an "honour" to get a Star, but a VANITY PLATE purchase. Outside of her home country, her contribution to America & the world is 6 seasons on an *ensemble* show & now an embarassing DUD of a female buddy comedy. Then again, I hear that doughy goon Vince Vaughn got foot/hand prints outside of the Chinese Theater, so the gold has lost its luster there, too.

Grauman's used to mean something and then they put contemporary actors and actresses in there and cheapened everything..People will know over time who Humphrey Bogart was or Gregory Peck or Lee Marvin, but unless they watch MSt3000 they won't know who Sofia Vergara is. There is maybe a few today that measure up to the Iconic Legends that we had before..and Sofia Vergara is not one of them...

I've got to admit, this was something of a surprise. They should have waited another 20 years to fully evaluate her body of work.

reply

Actually, you can buy a star for about $10,000

reply

She's hardly the first nor the last "unworthy" celebrity to get a star. Kaley Cucuo got one not too long ago. She's been around a while, probably the same amount of time as Vergara, but I wouldn't say her body of work was a hugely important addition to the television industry. Granted, she's on a highly rated and popular show but she's not even 30.

The star used to hold some cache and usually given to someone who made important contributions to their field, but it became about money eons ago. I think a fan club or a sponsor ponies up $10-20 grand and voila!, the flavor of the month gets a star.

reply

Totally agree. She has done nothing to make her worthy of a star. Having model-actresses like her getting a star on HWOF is just beyond stupid.

reply

Yep, I agree. I'm sure she's very nice but does her body of work merit a star on the walk of fame? No, no really

reply

$30,000 ..... plus a history of community service/charitable contributions.

reply

Except that you don't have to wait to be nominated anymore. You can put yourself up for "nomination" by buying one. It's really pathetic, and makes the HWOF absolutely meaningless now. And IMO it's an insult to the old school actors and actresses who actually EARNED their star!
