Star Trek First Contact

Watching this film for the first time in a long time and I forgot how good she is in it. I have heard many people say that this is the best film in the series and is defintily the best film from TNG storyline. Not only does she stand toe to toe with Sir Patrick, she makes him better in the process.

She has been complementing projects and actors since she hooked up with Denzel Washington in St Elsewhere. Can someone please explain to me why she is not playing better roles in a bigger show than Memphis Beat? It is not a bad show but I would love to see her in something bigger and better.

I agree with you. When I first saw First Contact I was really impressed with Alfre Woodward. Particularly the scene when she berates Captain Picard for not ordering the Enterprise to be destroyed so as to stop the Borg.

I don’t know why she does not seem to have bigger roles in TV and film. May be its deliberate choice, maybe the jobs she gets is what she is offered. All I know is that when she was in Desperate Housewives she was criminally underused on the show and her character left with a whimper at the end of Season 2. Not cool!

Memphis Beat hasn’t reached the UK yet ( where I live) and neither did Three Rivers. I just hope that her talent is used more extensively in the years to come.

After some "casual" research (did a google search and followed where it took me, no not just the first couple of links) and I think that she is simply a "dedicated Mom". From what I have read, she seems like she has her feet on the ground and is one of those rare "famous" people you would want to get to know.

Those scenes in 1st Contact with Sir Patrick, as you guys call him, are probably the best out of the entire Star Trek film series. I would say the radio conversations between Kirk and Kahn in Star Trek II come in a distant second. I also thought she did an outstanding job with Denzel Washington in St Elsewhere.

As far as Memphis Beat goes, she is good but I am just not fond of the way the show is written. I do not know if you are you familiar with the stereotypical "way to proud of being from Texas guy" but this show is full of people who are way to proud of being from Memphis. I was born in Memphis and trust me people from there do not act that way. Not to mention that the show is filmed in New Orleans uses b roll footage makes it looks cheesy to a "native".

One question, are there only 14 episodes of "Spaced" (Simon Pegg)? Spaced is listed as having 2 seasons, are TV seasons 7 episodes long with the BBC? Okay another question, over there, are episodes of the "Goodies" available? I know expcept for Kitten Kong on Amazon, there is nothing. What ever happened to them?

I am sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks for all the information. To answer your questions; as far as I know there were only 14 episodes of Spaced. Most UK dramas or comedies average 6 or 7 episodes. Historically I believe it because of budgets have been lower on UK shows than US shows . UK shows usually have one or two writers rather than team of writers you find on US shows. Sometimes though a season will stretch to 13 episodes but it is rare that is any longer than this.

The Goodies are certainly available on DVD in the UK. You can find them on Amazon UK but they are Region 2 DVDs so they won't play on US DVD players unless yours is a multi region player. The guys are still around mainly doing other projects on TV and radio in the UK. This Wikipedia link has a lot of information about the Goodies which you may find useful.
