Saw One Man, Two Guvnors last night

Can't recommend it enough. Absolutely hilarious and a great night out.

After the first scene – where I was getting the jokes but only laughed once – I was worried it might be a dud, but it soon picked up... and up and up. The whole theatre was soon roaring. For an update (to 1963 Brighton) of a 250-year-old Italian play, it is extremely modern, knowing, in parts risque and terribly silly, combining character comedy, wordplay, farce, class comment, slapstick, audience interaction... you name it.

It's on at The Adelphi (art-deco palace) on the Strand in London's West End and by way of qualification I will add that unusually I was not drinking (got the lurgey, I'm afraid) and I go to the theatre incredibly rarely – maybe once in 18 months; an old friend had invited me.
