My favorite role of Chris's is one of his first, on the old NBC Letterman show as "the guy who lives under the seats." Very bizarre, a little creepy (or faux creepy), and extremely funny. At the end of his shtick, while lowering the trap door to go back to his home under the seats, head disappearing, he warbled in a silly-eerie singsong, "I'll be watching you, Dave!" He kept me in stitches. I looked forward to every appearance. His "Marlon Brando" was also funny--and weird. By golly, he still appears on Letterman fairly often, twenty-five years (plus) later, and he's still funny. He wasn't nearly as funny on SNL. It was probably too structured and safe for his unique brand of comedy (self-effacing, funnily inept satire).

As for his films, I like him in virtually everything, even when the films he's in blow (and there are quite a few of those). I like him in Groundhog Day, even though he has to share the screen with Bill Murray. Like everyone, I like him in There's Something about Mary, and he's also funny in his Kingpin bit part. Cabin Boy would have worked better as a short than a full-length film, but it has its moments.

In my view, Chris Elliott is much, much funnier than most of the "hot" comedy actors today, including Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell. Those guys are not funny compared to Elliott. But what do I know? I'm so old fashioned that I think Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin are the pinnacle of film comedy.

I agree about Keaton and Chaplin but I think Ferrell is hilarious.

My favorite Chris Elliot character is undoubtedly The Fugitive Guy.

Fugitive Guy--yes, hilarious! I'd forgotten.

What was the one where he was "Make Up Guy"?
"Dave I could put a little number 2 on that."
