Why Some of Dr. Suess's works were "pulled" ?

Just ran across this on Wikipedia/Wikimedia:

The Caption of this Dr. Suess Cartoon is "Waiting For The Signal From Home"
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/b0/Seuss_cartoon.png

This is a political cartoon where a huge throng of Japanese Americans, stretching all across the West coast, from Washington, through Oregon to California are cueing up to a building with a "The Honorable Fifth Column" are collecting dynamite for bombs, presumably waiting for the signal from the Japanese homeland to turn against America from inside - the definition of a fifth column.

Needless to say I was surprised to see this, and the pulling of certain Dr. Suess works of xenophobia and racism. Doesn't really work well in today's values. Dismissing it as politically correct or woke really does not work.
