Why Hollywood Chose him as the next 'IT' Guy? Rate of sucess is anomaly!

I am incredibly proud that michael B jordan is becoming the next big thing. Its refreshing to see a young black actor UNDER 30!!!!! breaking alot of typecast color barriers. I think hes a incredible performer but what I dont understand is his astonishing rate of sucess. A george lucas film, a critically acclaimed indie film sundance, a respectable romantic comedy with zack efron where hes not the clown of the group but a doctor, possibly independence day 2 sequel, a rocky spinoff, possible star wars role and fantastic four? I have to give this man his props for a job well done. This guy is literally trailblazing. Im also glad hes actually getting good roles and not just stereotypical ones or getting movies based on just looks like channing tatum. I hope he sticks around to be the next person will msith passes his torch to. Its almost phenomenal for me to believe that at age 26 a young black actor that has had such great sucess in mainstream film without ever doing a black film or starting out as a rapper or comedian/slapstick standup. Its almost unheared of. When I think about it more, hes surpassed almost every black actor in fame and level of sucess for his age. It took jaime fox (who became a major sucess in his late 30s), the wayans brothers, don cheadle, anthony mackie, megan good, lauren london, kerry waashington, and gabrielle union MANY years before they were even leads in big budget movies (some are still not even leads or in major MAINSTREAM films). Even will smith, who at age 26 had done a few films that were major studio picks was still on the rise at age 26. Do you think there is a formula to all this or is it just random? I

I always felt regardless of color white or black that hollywood selects/pushes/markets who it wants to be the next big thing (shia lebouf had his time, ryan reynolds, josh harnett, joseph levit gordon, channing tatum, bradley cooper, and now ryan gosling). Sometimes I dont see the congruency in talent and whose being marketed or consistently casted. Not to take a nick at MJB but there were many other talented black actors who didnt get the oppurtunities hes had. SO I must ask where did Micheal B jordan go right that DEREK LUKE (who came off a critically acclaimed antwone fisher), MEKHI PFIEFFER, TRISTAN WILDS, Taye diggs, Boris kudjoe, or any of the characters from tyler perry era go wrong? [/b] Literally Hollywood is feeding this guy a great career on a platter.

My theories are that hollywood wants to cater to a younger audience with its movies as well "fresh faces" and at a fraction of the cost. It may also be the general idea that color blind casting or multiracial casting brings more money evidenced by the sucess of Fast Furious franchise. I also think it has to do with him even saying...I want to be a colorless actor and not just be put into a box. I think he said ryan gosling is someone he tried to model his career and strives to be. His roles def seem to be calculated and very wide appeal in range and staying clear from the black genre of films probably so maybe that has helped him (and will smith) a bit too

I'm happy for his success too but lets take it a step at a time. When people praise young celebrities like this I get nervous. Michael shows GREAT potential in being one of the top leading actors of his generation. And though he is being considered for a lot of projects he still has to go out and audition just like the black actors that you mentioned - and many of the roles that he is in talks for are not Fruitvale Station type of lead roles. I just don't want us to set him up to fail after just one year of great reviews.

This is true but Im looking at this from a perspective from quality of roles and oppurtunity and age.

How many of those black acotrs have worked with George lucas or speilberg at MJBs age? Just for an audition...

HOw many young black acotrs are even considered mainstream where they are not just known in the black television genre but now the main market and appear on ellen, micheal and kelly , etc. Besides him only kevin heart, samuel L jackson, denzel, don cheadle, will smith and maybe kerry washington are really MAINStream.

How many of the roles did MJB have to play a robber, or dress up as a woman, or play a ruthless thug or some stereotype...only one

How many black acotrs have been on multiple critically acclaimed shows.

how many black actors are even getting considered for major big budget franchise films besides denzel or will smith...I mean even critics have written articles about this. Will smith for a long time was the only black actor that a studio would cast in a movie with a big budget.

You have to admit this is big strides! Yes, not all the roles are significant but at least it shows Hollywood is changing a bit.

You're right! Many doors have opened for him, but too, doors are opening because the iron is hot right now for him. Many of the actors you mentioned in your initial post had a period where the iron was hot for them too. Then unexpectedly it cooled down because the roles slowed down, or the roles became less "significant" (typecasting?), or a hotter act stepped on the scene, captured everyone's attention and got the roles (hence how Kevin Hart replaced Katt Williams). And it's NOT because they were not talented, but black actors (and actresses) are much more disposable and interchangeable in this business.

Yes, he is in talks for major projects now (congrats to him!) but I somewhat feel like this is Anthony Mackie all over again, where Michael is being offered the supporting "token black guy" roles simply because he is hot/seen right now. I am happy for him but this is my fear -- that he will get the minor roles until someone younger comes along and gets people's attention. The only person (at the moment) who I think will write the BEST material for him is Ryan Coogler. I think those two have a Spike Lee and Denzel Washington type of chemistry where they bring out the best in each other. I am eager to see what they will do with Creed, which Ryan is writing specifically for Michael as well.

I don't think Jordan's being pushed like he's the "next big thing" at all---he's been in the biz since he was a child,so he's pretty much a professional, who's een around a while. Also, films about black folks that are made and produced by black folks are showing that they can be big box office hits (THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY,RIDE ALONG (which I just saw, and was really fun/entertaining to watch) ABOUT LAST NIGHT,and THE BUTLER,to name a few) so that's giving more room for opportunities to show what he can do (like in FRUITVALE STATION.)

Another thing is that a number of white actors/actresses whom Hollywood tried to make happen (Taylor Kitsch,Alex Pettyfer,Mischa Barton, Ryan Reynolds) didn't take off quite the way H-wood thought they would, and since they're always looking for the next new face coming up,someone must have figured,"Why not MJ?" especially after FRUITVALE STATION gave notice that he could carry a leading role. And plus, he clearly worked his way to the top without any big-name show-biz parents to pull any strings for him---he earned his success---I say good on him, and hope he's able to do more films like FS.

I definitely think he is being pushed. THere is always some fresh face being promoted for stardom. Just like when shia lebouf made his break out...Disneys HOLES got him noticed for being cast for DJ caruso's disturbia (and eagle eye), which got him noticed by speileberg for micheal bays transformers, indiana jones, and eagle eye...and a series of other avg franchise films. They wanted him to be the young actor that was marketable to teen audiences. I think Hollywood is pushing him to be the next big thing.
